If you own a home in Georgia, your property tax bill may be shrinking. Gov. Brian Kemp announced Monday that the Georgia Department of Revenue will begin sending Homeowner Tax Relief Grant funds to local governments this week. The money comes from the AFY2026 Budget.
- Tax year: 2026, one time only
- Payout: a reduction on your bill, not a check or deposit
- Reach: eligible homeowners across Georgia
State Revenue Commissioner David Burge said the department has been working closely with local governments to run the program. The department is processing applications and sending funds as the required documentation is submitted and verified.
What to expect depends on where your tax bill stands
| Your situation | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Bill already issued | You may already see the savings |
| Bill still coming | Relief shows as your local government issues bills |
| Qualifying homestead exemption | No separate application needed |
